The 1-6m-4-5 progression was used often in the late 50s and the 60s. An alternative with similar effect could be 1-6m-2m-V.   Examples below: Stand by Me - (Ben E King), Don’t Let Me Get Me (Pink). 

Here’s an audio sample in the key of D.  The 1-6m-4-5 progression uses chords D-Bm-G-A.

Ben E King - Stand by Me

This one is in the Key of A.  Over the  verse  the 1-6m-4-5 chords are  A | F#m | D | E|

Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs - Stay

This track is in the key of Bb.  So in each verse the 1-6m-4-5 chords will be:  Bb | Gm | Eb | F | 

Alternatively - capo 3,  play G | Em | C | D |

Beatles - Please Mr Postman

This version is in key of A.  Verse chords:  A | F#m | D | E
